Kent is in the southeast of England, it boarders Greater London, Sussex and surrey as well as having the River Thames estuary running through it. As part of Kent you will find the unitary borough of Medway as well as the shire county of Kent, in Kent you will also find the channel tunnel which makes a link between the city and France boarder half way through the Channel. Maidstone is also a county town in Kent where you will found Rochester and Canterbury, Canterbury has recently been granted city status.
Kent has a massively rich history, this is something that is partly down to its location, as it is right in between London and France, and this has therefore meant that they have been in the middle of a number of several conflicts. Some of the battles that the city has been in the middle of include the Battle of Britain in World War II. During this time the East of Kent was renamed the Hell Fire Corner, England really relied on and still does rely on Kent for their ports, these have continued to provide the whole country with warships for the past 800 years during times like; the 12th-14th century during the Cinque Ports, and during the 16th-20th centuries during the Chatham Dockyard. The latter was particularly important as it provided the country with the much needed security it needed.
Kent is also well known and extremely popular for its high number of orchard and hop gardeners, this has resulted in the city getting the nickname of The Garden of England , this is a title that a number of county s have tried to steal over the years. Kent also has a number of other industries that it is famous for, these include papermaking, aircraft construction and cement making, they also have a rich coal mining heritage. The East and South of Kent are both popular areas for tourists to visit, this is something which provides the area with a high amount of their economic income, this area is also well known for its agriculture.
Kent is home to three universities, the University of Kent, in which the campuses can be found throughout both Medway and Canterbury. There is also the University of Greenwich, this is also called as a London university however it has a number of campuses throughout Kent at, Medway, Eltham, Woolwich and in London. There is also the Canterbury Christ Church University that has campuses throughout the inter area of East Kent. Kent is also home to the University of Creative, you can find three of the University s five campuses in the Kent region. Kent also has a large number of comprehensive schools as well as grammar schools. Due to its high education standards it makes Kent a highly thought of region for education as well as high education, every year all the universities receive a high number of applications.
